ADAC and Solaris have [launched an instant-access savings account](https://www.presseportal.de/pm/122834/6365519?ref=embeddedfinancereview.com) for ADAC credit cardholders. ADAC is Germany's automobile club, best known for its breakdown service, and ADAC Finanzdienste runs its financial products. The account pays 3.50% for the first three months and then a variable 1.50% on balances up to €100,000\. Cardholders open it in the ADAC credit card app or in online banking. Solaris says the account went to 50,000 cardholders in a soft launch in September and is now available across the entire ADAC credit card portfolio.

Until now, ADAC members could manage the credit card only in that app. Now, the savings account is a separate account, with money moving in and out via the credit card account or a registered reference account, and interest credited monthly. Solaris SE is the contracting bank, and the ADAC press release describes Solaris as operating and developing both the savings account and the credit card programme.

## How the ADAC credit card ended up with Solaris

Solaris [took over the ADAC credit card](https://www.embeddedfinancereview.com/solaris-shuts-down-former-contis-business-and-goes-live-with-its-first-co-branded-credit-card-partnership/) from Landesbank Berlin, the previous issuer, in September 2024\. According to ADAC, around 1.3 million card contracts moved onto the Solaris platform at the time. The savings account is the first new product built on top of that portfolio, and Joost Greve, CEO of ADAC Finanzdienste, frames it exactly that way: "Our savings account marks the next development step around the ADAC credit card portfolio" (translated from German).

Embedded Finance Review: Office hours

Building something in embedded finance? Whether you are a brand comparing providers, an enabler working through your go-to-market strategy, or a team trying to fill a crucial (fintech) role, my office hours are a free call to talk it through. I share my honest read and, where it helps, intros to my network.

## A co-brand with a savings account

While ADAC is a non-financial brand, the credit card and savings account are not embedded finance but co-branded products. This can be explained in multiple ways, but most importantly, Solaris developed and published the ADAC app in the App Store, and it isn't integrated into an existing customer journey.

The card was already a co-brand with Landesbank Berlin and stayed one after the move to Solaris. The savings account adds breadth: ADAC is turning a single card into a broader financial offering for its members. A lot is still missing for this to count as embedded finance, but I find it interesting that ADAC keeps launching new products.

## ADAC and the AA: two automobile clubs moving into savings

In the United Kingdom, the AA (the British ADAC equivalent) is also moving into financial services. In early 2025, the AA became NatWest Boxed's first client, with an instant-access savings account live from March 2025 and personal loans announced to follow.

For an automobile club whose relationship with members is mostly offline, integrating financial products into an existing customer journey is complicated, as [I wrote when the AA deal was announced](https://www.embeddedfinancereview.com/the-british-automobile-association-aa-partners-with-natwest-boxed/). So for these companies, the co-brand might well be the one model that works in the long run.
