ZYMIX, a UK super app for Gen Z, has launched a wallet as part of its nationwide UK launch on 28 September 2026. The offering targets students first. Inside the wallet, users can hold GBP and EUR balances, send money to each other and split shared expenses. The company works with e-money institution Mangopay, which handles wallets, payments, and identity checks.
How the ZYMIX wallet works
ZYMIX has built its wallet offering around expense splitting, a feature many payment apps offer. A typical use case is a group of students planning a night out in the ZYMIX group chat. One student pays for the event tickets, which the app sells through a Ticket Tailor integration, and everyone else sends their share through the wallet. ZYMIX users can also top up an e-SIM from the wallet.
Expense splitting is common in many fintech solutions, but I don't know many examples of social apps integrating a wallet for it. It is an interesting move from ZYMIX, and I am curious to see how adoption will work out. A wallet that needs to be topped up purely for expense splitting, which then happens either directly after the top-up or at an uncertain time in the future, does not seem very compelling. But I am also not Gen Z ;)
Building something in embedded finance? Why ZYMIX works with Mangopay
The choice of Mangopay is less surprising as the Luxembourg-headquartered company is a strong wallet provider, especially in P2P use cases. The company received its UK e-money licence from the FCA in November 2023, after offering the same services in the EU under its Luxembourg e-money licence since 2013.
